Borinquen Medical Centers (BMC) in collaboration with Miami Dade County Public Schools, Department Of Health, and The Childrens Trust has implemented a school health program (SHP) that provides the essential foundations to enable children to reach their full potential. This is a school health program designed to promote a healthy school environment that is conducive to student well-being, fosters positive behavior, and supports higher academic achievement. The program is designed to identify, prevent, or remedy student health problems and to improve access to quality health care and other relevant community supports through delivery of comprehensive services in the schools and appropriate referrals to community care. BMC’s school health team provides basic and comprehensive school health services, to include, behavioral assessment by social workers, health education, nursing assessment, intervention, and counseling; chronic disease management, immunizations, medication administration, first aid, oral health screening, and state mandated screenings. The SHP addresses financial barriers by helping to enroll eligible students in Medicaid, ACA plans or Children Health Insurance Programs.
